Dark. Brown. Indian. These words not only describe the artist but also his spectacular monochromatic works of art. Proudly Indian, Mark carries that sentiment to his creations as well.
He finds his inspiration from the memories of his childhood days spent at a remote village in the South of India. His artistic expressions are people from daily walks of life. What is common in his works of art be it acrylic, pen and ink, charcoal or sculpture are the calligraphic, evocative and expressive lines. The lines he uses have a story to tell too. They almost always begin humbly and progress to thick and confident lines. It is such a coincidence and a replica of how Mark’s career began and has progressed to where it has now.
Mark’s art is accessible and easy to understand and enjoy. His naturalistic works completed with versatile strokes of the pen is so typical of his exceptional approach to art and makes his works distinctive.
Mark’s work is strongly influenced by the works of K. M. Adimoolam and the Madras Art Movement. His works are lauded for spontaneity and are an absolute assurance of his individuality and versatility. His brush and the nozzle of his ink bottle have brought to life many spectacular scenes from folksy Tamilnadu, which is a core subject area that he confidently flaunts in his works of art.
He has hosted many solo shows and participated in group shows both in India and overseas. His creative bent of mind has also encouraged him to express himself through lyrics to some songs from the album that he recorded and released.
Mark lives in Chennai, with his beautiful wife Selvi and his two lovely children, Ovia and Allan.
